About ACC Backcountry Huts
An overview of the ACC backcountry hut system — where the huts are located, how they operate, and where to find detailed information for each hut.
The Alpine Club of Canada operates a network of more than 30 backcountry huts across the Canadian Rockies and BC. Huts are user-maintained shared spaces — every guest is responsible for cleaning, packing out garbage, and helping with chores like firewood and snow shovelling.
Where ACC huts are located
ACC huts are spread across several land types, each with its own access and booking rules:
- Banff, Yoho, and Waterton national parks — most huts are here, including Elizabeth Parker, Stanley Mitchell, Bow Hut, and the Wapta Icefield huts
- BC provincial parks — five huts: Kokanee Glacier Cabin, Conrad Kain Hut, Silver Spray Cabin, Woodbury Cabin, and Elk Lakes Cabin. Different booking rules apply — see How to Book an ACC Hut
- Section huts — operated by individual ACC sections (such as Wally Joyce (Bon Echo) Hut, Keene Farm Hut, Jim Haberl Hut, Tantalus Hut, Hišimy̓awiƛ, Wendy Thompson Hut, and Kees and Claire Memorial Hut). These are not booked through the central ACC system — visit the relevant section's website
