About the General Mountaineering Camp (GMC)
The General Mountaineering Camp is a series of week-long, helicopter-accessed guided mountaineering camps. The GMC has run annually since 1906 in changing remote locations.
The General Mountaineering Camp (GMC) is one of the ACC's longest-standing programs, running annually since 1906. Each year, the GMC sets up a new helicopter-accessed base camp in a different remote location across the Canadian mountains.
What it is
- A series of week-long camps with daily guided mountain outings
- Purpose-built base camps accessed by helicopter
- Professional cooks preparing meals on-site
- A mix of climbing and non-climbing activities — including photography, art, stargazing, swimming, and time around camp
Who it's for
The GMC welcomes a range of experience levels. Each week's program lists the kind of objectives planned and the skills you'll need. Contact the Adventures team if you're unsure whether the GMC fits your experience.
How to register
Registration opens each year through the member portal. Specific dates and the year's location are announced when registration opens — watch the ACC website and member communications.
Payment and refunds
The GMC has its own payment structure: a 50% non-refundable deposit at registration, with the remaining balance charged 60 days before your camp week. Once processed, payments are non-refundable. Trip cancellation insurance is strongly recommended.
